Hi â•„ here’s something for the Talking Newspaper about an audio-described
event on the 7th Sepember.  I’d be happy to come down and be recorded, but if
you don’t have time:
Coventry’s Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is holding a free audio description
of an amazing object from Ancient Egypt on Tuesday 7 September.
The museum is showing an exquisite plaque of the pharaoh Akhenaten as a taster
for a major exhibition about Ancient Egypt next year.  This piece is almost
3,500 years old, and shows the Pharaoh who tried to transform Egyptian
religion, and as a result, his image and name was defaced and erased from the
Egyptian historical record.
The Herbert’s specialist in Egyptology, Chris Kirby, is giving a public talk
about this plaque and the most turbulent moment in ancient Egyptian history,
and to aid visually impaired visitors there will be a free live audio
description of the plaque beforehand.
The audio description will be at 11.15, with the illustrated talk "Who was
Pharaoh Akhenaten?" at 12.30 to 1.30.  Both of these events are free.
For more details, please contact Jack Shuttleworth on 024 7629 4752.
